Recapturing the profound achievements of Black residents in Broward County since 1900. We look back to the past to shape a more enlightened future.
Established in 2007 by Beauregard Cummings and Mary Black Rizor, Trailblazers of Broward County is guided by the sacred Sankofa bird.
The Sankofa symbolizes the importance of returning to one's roots to fetch knowledge. It teaches us that it is not taboo to go back for that which you have forgotten.
"To understand where we are going, we must first honor those who paved the way through resilience and achievement."
Our purpose is to promote public understanding and appreciation of the contributions made by Black residents from 1900 to the present, ensuring no story is lost to time.
